For hundreds of years Bulwell remained a small farming community about four miles north-west of the city of Nottingham. Gradually, however, it began to exploit the natural resources on which it stood and industrialisation in the eighteenth century led to its growth so that by the end of the nineteenth century Bulwell had become a suburb of Nottingham. 48pp
