Description
This brings together two pamphlets, To the Castle and Damn his Charity… originally published separately by Nottingham & Notts Radical History Group.
The first part of this book examines the story behind the Great Cheese Riot, which took place in 1766 during Nottingham’s Goose Fair and places it within the context of the wave of food riots which occurred that autumn.
The second part examines the Reform Riots of 1831, looking closely at the identities and motives of the rioters as well as living and working conditions in early nineteenth century Nottingham. 172pp
