Description

More than just a story about WW1 in the trenches. It is the story of one young man’s whole adult life from 1911 to 1918. William Denman Russell jnr. came from a wealthy family with property in London and in and around Farnsfield in Nottinghamshire. In 1911, while visiting the family’s farm in Nottinghamshire to help with the harvest, he wrote his first letter home. When in 1912 he joined the SS Orvieto heading for a new life as a farmer in Australia, he wrote dozens of letters home during the voyage, and continued thereafter recording the events that ultimately led him into WW1 and to his death in 1918. 303pp, family photos & facsimiles of the letters.
