This is the story of fire and rescue services in Nottinghamshire from 1914 when there was Police-Fire Brigade in the city, through the 1920s and 1930s when the fire brigade crewed ambulances as well as fire engines, and the 1940s when the National Fire Service was established and the service was split into the City and County Brigades, to 1974 when the City and County Brigades amalgamated. Many emergency incidents are described, with personal accounts being interwoven with information from official documents. The book is illustrated throughout. 271pp
