Augustus Charles Gregory was born in Farnsfield 1 August 1819, but left with his family for Australia in 1829. Augustus Gregory became prominent as a surveyor and explorer, leading two successful expeditions in Western Australia. He is commemorated in Australia through the national park that bears his name and remembered in Farnsfield through the road name “Gregory Gardens”. 76pp
