Description
George Williamson, the Nottingham born jockey, is still the only person to have won both the Grand national and the toughest steeplechase in continental Europe, the Velka Pardubicka. In 1896 he married Barolness Daisy de Buren, but in 1899, within days of his winning the Grand National, Williamson returned home to Nottingham to find she had left him. This is really the story of Daisy’s colourful life, much of it researched from newspaper reports of the time, but it also reveals a great deal about Williamson himself, who retired to live in West Bridgford during WW1. 169pp, photos
