Mumby & Sons was a clothing business founded in Nottingham in 1874, but which expanded into Newark in 1881.  The business was passed down through generations of the Mumby family, before eventually closing its doors for good in 1978.

The author is the great-great-granddaughter of business founder Robert Mumby, and what started as a family history became a social history of Newark, showing the role the business played in the local community.
