In sixteenth and seventeenth century England, the Hacker family were powerful and wealthy people owning substantial property and exerting significant inflence throughout Nottinghamshire and the Midlands. This all changed in 1660 when Colonel Francis Hacker was executed for the part he played in the regicide of King Charles 1 almost eleven years earlier. This investigation traces the family history and attempts to unravel some of the myths and legends about family. 99pp illus
Early generations of the Hackers lived in Lowdham and East Bridgford and Francis himself was born in Gedling in 1605.
