Description
Majorie Bates was the daughter of a New Basford, Nottingham man and a distant cousin of Dame Laura Knight. She was a prolific artist and travelled extensively throughout England and Europe, as well as visiting Africa, producing several sketches of the same subject wherever a scene caught her eye. Her sketches, when colour washed became best selling postcards, and many of her works have been displayed in Paris salons, at the Royal Academy and in many English art galleries.
