Description

This contains four essays on the various banks which operated within Nottinghamshire from the 18th century until they went out of existence, the earliest being Smiths’ of Nottingham and the last to survive, the Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Banking Company. Particular attention is given to Pocklinton, Dickinson & Co, Cook & Co. and Hornby, Esdaile and Clay.  The Review also highlights the part the local aritocracy and gentry played in the banks’ funding and administration, including in particular, that of Sir Thomas Woolaston White in Worksop 1803-1817.  36pp. illus.
