The year is 1792.  A local Assembly is taking place at the village home of Major Edward Latimer and his wife Lise.  Earlier the same day, a child is born into the family of the village blacksmith.

The Umbrella Tree traces the interweaving of several families whilst events in the village, ( modelled on Wollaton),  the near by town and in London inexorably lead to Waterloo, one of the great battles of history. “Revolution” reverberates throughout the book.  424pp
